What Process
Windows Process Library - Find Out What Your PC Is Doing! .exe

What Is What Process?

What Process is a small Windows application that lists all the processes running on your computer. When you click on each process, it tells you where that file resides on your PC and it creates a link to this website which will tell you more about the process. You don't need to download the application though. You can access Task Manager on your PC by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del and viewing your running processes. Then just enter the process name on this website in the "jump to" box on the right hand side.

The What Process application is particularly handy in a networked environment as it lets you connect to PCs across a network, and terminate processes as well as look up what they might be.

Download the latest version of What Process?

There are now two versions of What Process!

The original version is available below and requires the .Net runtime to be installed, but is only 180kb in size. A new version coded by Cord Schneider in association with Uretopia Limited is available and will work on any 32bit version of Microsoft Windows.

Both versions require WMI to be present - this is present as standard from Windows 2000 onwards and can be installed on earlier versions.

Please note, before downloading the What-Process freeware, that you agree to do so at your own risk and that Uretopia Limited will not be responsible for any problems or conflicts that arise with any other software you may have installed.

NEW - Standard Win32 Version

Requirements: Windows 2003, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows 98, Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)

Version 1.02b - Download (600kb) - 09/03/04

.Net Version

This version is .NET based, so you need version 1.1 of the framework installed on your computer before you run the application. You can download it from Windows Update if you don't have it already. It uses WMI to connect to the target machines, so it will only work in 2003, XP, 2000 environments, unless you have actually manually installed WMI on an older OS.

You must have admin rights over the machine that you are connecting to. If the account you are logged in as doesn't have admin rights, use the RunAs command and connect using an account that does.
